Towersey Festival’s Showground programme offers visitors a unique opportunity to experience just some of what the famed annual event has to offer.
Kicking off on Thursday 22 August 2013 with an appearance from the legendary Blockheads, the festival continues with a packed programme of entertainment right over the Bank Holiday.
A Festival Showground Ticket allows visitors access to the Showground area on Saturday 24, Sunday 25 and Monday 26 August 2013, and a chance to enjoy a variety of activities, from music and dance, to street theatre and a sculpture trail – all for just £8/£3 concessions (available at the gate on the day).
Over 100 stalls offer gifts and goodies, from handmade soaps, unique jewellery and clothing, to garden herbs, while Towersey Real Ale and Cider Festival, well stocked with acclaimed and award-winning beverages, offers the perfect accompaniment to the array of delicious street foods, courtesy of local artisan producers.
As always, there’s also a range of free performances and activities aimed squarely at families, with art, craft, science and circus workshops, puppet shows, face painting, games, singing, dancing, storytelling and more.
Among the many entertainers taking centre stage or mingling through the crowds are Pete White’s Suitcase Circus, Thingumajig Theatre’s giant mechanical hippo, and dozens of singers and musicians. Towersey village’s very own Phoenix Studio will be demonstrating traditional Japanese pottery firing, while the Rainbow Marquee offers craft activities all day long. The Sculpture Village showcases some weird and wonderful large scale sculptures, with demonstrations and hands-on activities.
New for 2013, expect to see a host of great musical talent from the surrounding area performing in the Showground Bar, including Oxford’s own Samuel Zasada and Thame-based duo The August List.
Festival Showground Tickets are available for Saturday 24, Sunday 25 and Monday 26 August 2013, from 10am-6pm, and can be purchased on the day at the gate. Car parking is free, and there’s also a red London Routemaster bus shuttle running regularly between Thame and Towersey throughout the festival.
If you are attending, why not also check out the festival’s chart-topping opening act The Blockheads (Thu 22 Aug, tickets £17/£9), upgrade to a Day Ticket (£10-£40, available Fri-Mon), or purchase a full festival ticket (£55-£125 with major discounts for Thame and Towersey residents) and enjoy such acclaimed acts as The Unthanks, Bellowhead’s Spiers And Boden, Show Of Hands with Miranda Sykes, Martin Carthy and Eliza Carthy, Mama Rosin and Nidi d’Arac, plus some great films, spoken word activities, dancing.
