Legendary club night Candy Box Burlesque returns to The Glee Club Birmingham on Sunday 1 December 2013 for a very special one-off reunion show.
Headlining the event are triple platinum-selling singer Imelda May and multi-award-winning American burlesque superstar, Catherine D’Lish.
Catherine has over 30 titles to her name, including World’s Performer of the Year, Miss Erotic World, Showgirl of the Year, and Miss Exotic America. She’s also a member of the Burlesque Hall of Fame, headlined Playboy’s 50th Anniversary Tour and is an accomplished designer, choreographer and creative director, renowned for her work with Dita Von Tees.
Launching at The Glee Club back in 2006, Candy Box Burlesque is acknowledged as one of the most influential clubs of the UK’s burlesque revival. Inspired by US burlesque clubs, founders Al ‘Palooka’ Gare and wife Saffron, presented their own twist on the scene, which mixes quality music, fashion, cabaret, dance, comedy and tease.
Since her early appearances at Candy Box Burlesque shows Irish singer-songwriter Imelda May – whose band includes Al – has forged a world-wide career. Her fusion of surf guitars, blues and rock’n’roll has won such fans as Jeff Beck, who invited her to perform with him at the US Grammy Awards in 2010, and Italian fashion designer Roberto Cavalli. She’s also shared stages with Eric Clapton, Chuck Berry, David Gilmour, Shane MacGowan and Meatloaf, amongst many others.
Candy Box Burlesque: The Final Meltdown reunites the Candy Box team for a special winter/ Christmas themed event following a four year break.
Joining Imelda May and Catherine D’Lish are Parma Violet and the Candied Heels, the World Famous Palookaville Burlesque Orchestra, plus Dirty Martini, Kitten On The Keys, Rod Laver, Alexandra Hofgartner, Missy Malone, Eliza DeLite.
