Come and Sing with Birmingham Bach Choir

Birmingham Bach Choir

Ever wondered what it’s like to sing with a full choir? Well now’s your chance to find out as Birmingham Bach Choir invite singers from across the West Midlands to join their ranks for an open rehearsal of the world’s most popular choral work.

The annual Come And Sing event, which takes place on Saturday 1 February 2014 at Selly Oak Methodist Church, Birmingham, sees the internationally acclaimed choir explore the choruses from Handel’s much-loved Messiah.

Written in the mid-18th century, Messiah is one of the most performed choral works in Western music, with the Hallelujah! chorus its most familiar passage .

Rousing, moving and stately, such is its popularity that selections have been chosen by over 120 personalities for their Desert Island Discs, among them actor Martin Shaw, singer Elaine Paige, fashion designer Zandra Rhodes, comedian Ronnie Corbett, TV interviewer Michael Parkinson, and both Richard and David Attenborough.

The relaxed, informal and inspired afternoon workshop/ rehearsal will be led by conductor Paul Spicer, who has recently returned from a successful tour of America in which he not only conducted several choirs, but also produced several recordings for other artists.

A spokesperson for Birmingham Bach Choir said: “Our Come And Sing events are friendly and welcoming, and Handel’s Messiah is such an uplifting and popular work – it’s instantly familiar, yet fresh and vibrant.

“Additionally, the afternoon is a great way to find out more about the choir, which features people from all walks of life from right across the region, and also check out our famous homemade cakes!”

Tickets for the workshop cost just £10/£11. For more information, including booking forms, see: www.birmingham.bachchoir.com or call 01789 763903 to reserve your place.
