- Birmingham’s Digbeth-based venues and organisations promise a second programme of late-night special for the second Digbeth First Friday
Digbeth First Friday returns on 6 June offering a variety of events and activities late into the evening at venues across the central Birmingham neighbourhood.
Among the attractions are exhibitions, late-night openings, live music, street food, film screenings and special events at such locations as The Edge, Grand Union, Teamworks Karting Birmingham, The Bond and Edible Eastside.
Friction Arts presents Psychedelic Psinema at The Edge from 9pm–1am, a bizarro mix of weird short films and a surprise feature from cinema’s weird attic, while The RC Theatre Group present Roxie’s Confession, a one-night musical extravaganza and retailers Provide showcase the work of Central Library architect John Madin with a photographic exhibition.
Elsewhere, Vivid Projects host a dress-up Superstyling party to launch a month-long season of exhibitions celebrating the Centre for Contemporary Cultural Studies (aka the Birmingham School), Teamworks Karting Birmingham offer evening racing for just £5, and Grand Union celebrate the opening of Holly Antrum’s first solo exhibition A Diffuse Citizen.
There’s also plenty of food and drink on offer: The Anchor Inn has produced First Friday Pale, a specially brewed ale exclusively for Digbeth First Fridays and available only ’til midnight; Edible Eastside’s mini market offers a selection of bread, plants and pizzas; The Bond host a Summer Fun evening with a Craft Beer Bar from Birmingham Beer Bash, a Whisky Tasting Bar from the Whisky Festival, and an outdoor barbecue; and musician/artist Bill Drummond serves tea and toast, topped with marmalade, at Eastside Projects.
