Casting Call Out: Performers Required

Birmingham Comedy Festival and Old Joint Stock Theatre Presents:
The Goon Show

Birmingham Comedy Festival and the Old Joint Stock Theatre are joining forces to produce two episodes from the classic radio comedy series at this autumn’s celebration of top notch comedy in Britain’s second city.

Both episodes, showing together as an evening’s entertainment, will be presented as though being recorded for broadcast. Performers will have scripts in hand, there will be live sound effects, and a band. The design of the production will evoke the ambiance of a BBC recording studio (with live audience) in 1954, when the scripts were originally broadcast.

The two scripts being performed, both by Spike Milligan, are ‘The Canal’ and ‘The Phantom Head Shaver (of Brighton)’.

Performers are now sought to join and complete the team.

We seek four or five actors who are versatile, experienced in comedy, and able to adopt a number of characters with minimal time between each. We do not necessarily require slavish impersonations of the original Goons; rather we are looking for performers who can help bring a fresh approach to the scripts whilst appreciating that they are very well known and dearly loved by many fans.

The Goon Show will run at the Old Joint Stock (Birmingham) 3 and 4 October, and the Spread Eagle (Croydon) 8 to 11 October 2014. All rehearsals will take place in Birmingham from 25 September 2014. This production is being directed by Robert F. Ball (A.D. of FRED Theatre).

If you would like to audition, please respond to this advert. You will be sent a pack containing more information. Once you have read that, if you wish to audition, let us know and we’ll arrange a time to see you. Auditions will be held in central Birmingham on Thursday 10 July 2014.
