Head for the hills!
Billy The Kid’s coming to town…!
Livestock Present: Billy the Kid: His Life in Music
Two men claim to have known Billy The Kid personally: Chevron Malaise and Acapulco Beans. They say they rode the Western trail with him, participated in gunfights and survived. Unfortunately, none of this is true.
In an attempt to achieve notoriety by association, two ageing cowboys have concocted an evening of (false) reminiscence that from the opening moment, fails to convince.
An entertaining fusion of music, theatre and comedy featuring re-enactments of moments from cowboy history and such songs as Hey Billy, The Ballad Of Viagra, Caught In The Fire and The Death Of Billy The Kid.
Written by and starring musician Rex Horan (Neil Cowley Trio, Jazz FM’s Jazz Artist of the Year 2013 award winner) and writer/performer Chris Johnston (Fluxx, Rideout, Livestock), Billy The Kid: His Life In Music was first presented as part of the Brighton Fringe 2013, prior to a week run at the Etcetera Theatre in Camden, London. Rex and Chris have been working together over several years exploring ways to fuse music, theatre and comedy. This is their first touring show.
A comedic musical tale of The Wild West and 19th century outlaw, gunman, gambler and rustler, William H. Bonney, aka Billy The Kid, whose legend lives on over 130 years after his death at the hands of Pat Garrett.

‘A completely glorious theatrical treat that makes its own utter mad sense. Any serious points that the play might conceal – about the unreliability of memory, how fact shape-shifts into folk myth, or how no one is really who they think they are, slip cleverly and slyly beneath the radar. A sublimely hilarious event.’ – Ian Wilkie, University of London
‘Performed as part of the Nightingale’s curated element of the Brighton Fringe 2013 programme, Billy the Kid is a wonderful piece for audiences with a penchant for good music mixed with a story of a (warped) piece of history.’ – Steven Brett, Director, The Nightingale, Brighton
