Famed singer-songwriter Joan Armatrading and Oxford’s Stornoway are the latest headline acts to be announced for the 51st Towersey Festival (Friday 28 to Monday 31 August 2015).

They join fellow headliners Bellowhead and Show Of Hands on the bill at the ever popular Oxfordshire festival.

Joan Armatrading should need no introduction. With a catalogue of hits such as Me Myself I, Drop The Pilot, Willow, All The Way From America and the timeless Love And Affection, she’s been a constant musical presence for over 40 years, racking up an impressive run of honours, accolades and awards (including a MBE). An accomplished multi-instrumentalist with 20 albums to her name, she’ll perform at Towersey solo, as part of her ‘last major world tour.’

Formed in Oxford during the early 2000’s, Stornoway’s 2010 debut album Beachcomber’s Windowsill (featuring the hit track, Zorbing) went on to sell 100,000 copies. The four-piece – Brian Briggs, Jonathan Ouin, Oli Steadman and Rob Steadman – have since made acclaimed appearances at Glastonbury, Womad and London’s Barbican Centre. Their third full-length studio album, Bonxie (released 13 April 2015) takes its name from a Hebridean seabird, the great skua, or bonxie, and was produced by Gil Norton (Pixies, Foo Fighters, Twin Atlantic).

Their Towersey performance will be their only summer festival appearance in the county.

Other new names added to the expanded festival line-up include multi-award nominated duo Chris While and Julie Matthews, BBC Horizon artist Kizzy Crawford, Lisbee Stainton, fresh from touring with Seth Lakeman, and the lauded Luke Daniels.

“We’ve very pleased to be adding Joan Armatrading and Stornoway to an already great Towersey bill,” says Festival Director Joe Heap. “Joan is a phenomenal singer-songwriter whose work spans pop, jazz, blues and acoustic, while Stornoway are one of the biggest, and most original, bands to come out of Oxfordshire over the last decade.

“They’re both great additions to a four-day festival line-up that features some of the best acoustic acts from across the UK and further afield. After our Golden Jubilee last year, 2015’s festival is already shaping up to be one of the best we’ve ever had!”

Taking place at Thame Showground, near Towersey, in Oxfordshire over the Summer Bank Holiday, the event also features a dedicated Children’s Festival, activities aimed at young people, a Real Ale Festival, film screenings, workshops, stalls, dance, street theatre, street food vendors and more.

Tickets for the full festival are available now. Prices start from just £120 (Adult), £110 (conc), £84 (Youth 12-17yrs), £55 (Child 5-11yrs), with under 5s free. Camping £25 (per adult/youth). Split payment option available.
