Major event supplier OneBigStar has won the contract to install stages and lights at the 51 year old Towersey Festival in Oxfordshire.
Starting in the village of Towersey 15 miles east of Oxford in 1965, Towersey Festival has raised over half a million pounds for local and national charities with its now 5,000 capacity folk, roots and acoustic music festival on five stages.
For over 30 years Bristol based company Stage Electrics have been responsible for power installation, stages and lights; but the company, having recently changed hands and reviewed their business, left Towersey with a big decision. Additionally, after 50 years in the village the festival is also preparing to move to a new site at nearby Thame Showground – taking with it both the established traditions and comforts you’d find in a long-running and much loved annual event, and the innovative programming you’d expect from a 21st century festival.
“This was the perfect time for us to change suppliers and we are delighted to be working with One Big Star (Nottinghamshire) to help us develop the new and long term future of Towersey Festival,” said Festival Director Joe Heap. Joe inherited the leadership of the event from his father Steve Heap (General Secretary of the AFO, Chairman of EIF) and organiser of the Festival since 1975. The festival was started by Joe’s grandfather Denis Manners back in 1965 and is now regarded as one of the country’s major events in the genre.
2015’s event, which runs from Friday 28 to Monday 31 August, sees headliners Bellowhead, Joan Armatrading, Show of Hands and Stornoway join over 70 other acts across five stages. It’s obviously quite a challenge for OneBigStar (OBS) to bring the Towersey magic to life on a new site, but one which OBS relish as they bring years of experience of outdoor events to Towersey.
Simon Taylor, Director of OBS, said: “OneBigStar are delighted to be working with the team at Towersey, and as such an exciting time in the festival’s history. We believe we will bring something fresh and new to the event, whilst retaining the spirit of the festival, it’s music and its roots.”
Other contractors involved in developing the new Towersey site are LionTrack Hire, Albion Woods Tents, Oxford Marquees, RPA, JB Event Facilities, and A1 – and with massive support from local councils and the community, Towersey is well set to start a new era.
