– The Glee to host comedians Tom Stade, Richard Herring, Tony Law and John Robins over consecutive Fridays.
– Venue voted No1 on TripAdvisor.
Acclaimed comedians Tom Stade, Richard Herring, Tony Law and John Robins are heading to The Glee Oxford over four consecutive Fridays.
The Glee’s ‘Four Fridays of Fun‘ begins on 19 February 2016 with Tony Law. The Canadian-born, but now London-based, comic has picked up a string of awards for his often absurd approach to comedy. His latest solo show is entitled Frillemorphesis.
Speakeasy (26 Feb) finds rising star John Robins exploring the impressions we create of ourselves online. Thirty-something Robin’s CV includes appearances on BBC Radio 4’s News Quiz, Russell Howard’s Good News (BBC3) and 8 Out Of 10 Cats (Channel 4), while he also co-hosts RadioX’s Saturday breakfast show with fellow comedian Elis James.
Since appearing as one half of duo Lee and Herring, with Stuart Lee, Richard Herring has forged a successful solo career, branching out into podcasting and journalism. His 12th solo show, Happy Now? (4 Mar), finds the Metro columnist asking: ‘If we were never unhappy, would happiness have any meaning?’
Finally, comedy powerhouse Tom Stade returns to The Glee with You’re Welcome! (11 Mar). The 4-star show finds the Canadian émigré ruminating on life’s oddities and revelling in his own perpetual shortcomings. One of the most dynamic comics performing in the UK, Stade’s flair and charm never fail to excite.
Glee Comedy Promoter Adam Jaremko said: “Complementing our ever-popular weekly shows, this is an exceptional run of one-offs.
“It’s always great to see such a varied and extremely talented selection of touring comedians coming to Oxford, alongside our Saturday nights these tour shows are the cherry on the top for comedy aficionados.”
Opened in 2010, The Glee is firmly established as Oxford’s premier comedy club, and has recently secured the title of Oxford’s favourite nightlife destination, based on enthusiastic and positive comments by visitors on website TripAdvisor.
“Being voted the number one nightlife destination in Oxford and receiving a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence is a real honour,” says Adam. “It means a great deal to us as that’s all down to visitor reviews.”
Looking further ahead, future one-off shows at the city centre venue include Rob Delaney (Thu 17 Mar), from Channel 4’s Catastrophe and recipient of Comedy Central’s The Funniest Person On Twitter award; Simon Evans (Thu 28 Apr), host of BBC Radio 4’s Goes To Market; and Sarah Pascoe (Fri 3 Jun 2016), whose first book, Animal: How a Woman is Made, is due this spring.
