The Glee Club’s brand new weekly comedy night announces further dates

After a massively successful run of shows throughout April and May, Cardiff’s new weekly comedy night, The Gathering, announces its next line-ups.

Hosted and booked by comedian Mark Olver, forthcoming shows, at Cardiff’s Glee Club, promise appearances from such names as Suzi Ruffell (28 May 2017), Sara Pascoe (18 Jun 2017) and Rhys James (2 Jul 2017).

Suzi’s supported such A-list comedians as Josh Widdicombe, Alan Carr and Kevin Bridges. Her 2015 UK co-headline tour with Romesh Rangathan was a sell-out, while she also co-hosts a popular podcast, Like Minded Friends, with fellow comedian Tom Allen.

An increasingly familiar face on TV, Sara Pascoe’s credits include Room 101, 8 Out Of 10 Cats and BBC2’s Olympics themed spoof documentary Twenty Twelve, while her ‘autobiography of a female body’, Animal, was published in 2016. A new series for BBC Radio 4, The Modern Monkey, is due soon.

Also with a new BBC Radio 4 series pending is Rhys James whose Rhys James Is … explores issues of bravery, loneliness and privilege.

The Gathering’s opening run saw a stream of ‘mystery guests’ including Joe Lycett. More big name unannounced special guests are tantalisingly promised for the coming months.

Launched in April, The Gathering is a weekly comedy night like no other, promising a heady and unpredictable mix of stand-up, film, recurring characters, games, and mystery guests, all curated and compared by Mark Olver.

Stressing the unpredictable nature of the night, Olver says: “The Gathering will just have whatever we can fit into the night! And it won’t just be straight stand-up, there will be anything we fancy. I’m basically curating it to choose the people who I like as comics and humans.

“It’ll probably be ridiculous, it’ll be unusual … lots of amazing comedy, lots of nonsense.”

The Gathering takes place on Sunday evenings at The Glee Club, Cardiff Bay, Cardiff. Tickets £8 (adults)/ £5 (students). For more information, and bookings, see:
