New album from The Wonder Stuff pair + Glee Club Birmingham gig (17 Oct 2017)
The Wonder Stuff’s Miles Hunt and Erica Nockalls will be returning to Birmingham’s Glee Club on Tuesday 17 October 2017 in support of the duo’s forthcoming third studio album, We Came Here To Work.
Discussing the album and accompanying live show, Miles said: “We decided to take the first few months of the year off from gigging – most unusual for us – to stay home to write and record a new album together. The time spent off the road allowed us to thoroughly immerse ourselves in the atmosphere of the new record. Conversely the time off also refreshed our appetite for getting back on stage!”
The Glee show will see the duo perform songs from across their career, including a few of those Wonder Stuff classics.
“The plan is for us to play the newer material in the earlier part of our sets and work our way toward the better known songs by the end of the evening,” says Miles. “It would be churlish not to, right?”
Formed in Stourbridge in 1986, The Wonder Stuff scored a run of major chart hits in the ’80s and ’90s. Last year saw the band celebrate their 30th anniversary with the critically acclaimed 30 Goes Around the Sun and a run of equally lauded live appearances.
Since 2006, Miles and Erica have toured the UK, Europe and the USA. performing acoustic shows including tracks from their own albums in addition to Wonder Stuff material (and the occasional cover version) – all interspersed with Miles’ trademark inter-song banter.
In a burst of activity, We Came Here To Work (out September 2017) will be accompanied by two new books by Miles (The Wonder Stuff Diaries ’90-’91 and The Wonder Stuff Diaries ’92-’94, to be published in August), and a new Wonder Stuff live anthology (due out November).
