Birmingham Comedy Festival is lifting its spirits with the announcement that Edinburgh Gin is the event’s official drinks sponsor for 2017.
Kicking off on Friday 6 October and running through until Sunday 15 October, the annual event will see acts from across the globe assemble in the city for a 10-day comedy spectacular. Among those set to appear are Man Down, Cuckoo and Taskmaster star Greg Davies (9-10 Oct, Town Hall), Doctor Who and Little Britain actor Matt Lucas (14 Oct, Town Hall), and Birmingham’s own comedy hero, Joe Lycett (10 Oct, The Glee; 11 Oct, Town Hall).
After sponsoring the internationally renowned Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Edinburgh Gin will bring the same spirit to Birmingham’s very own comedy feast. The gin brand was named Amazon’s top seller this summer and will be sponsoring the Birmingham Comedy Festival Breaking Talent Award 2017, which will see a hand-picked selection of emerging acts from across the West Midlands compete for the title.
Launching the festival on Friday 6 October at The Glee Club, Edinburgh Gin is providing a Raspberry Gin Fizz for guests and hosting a special Edinburgh Gin After Show party for acts, judges, and VIPs. They are also presenting a top prize hamper to the Breaking Talent winner, and a bottle of Edinburgh Original Gin to all acts taking part.
To celebrate being the official ‘spirit of the festival’, Edinburgh Gin has also created a special Edinburgh Gin Passport that will guide festival goers around bars involved in the event. Each venue will serve a signature serve for the duration of the festival with Edinburgh Gin, of course, being the staple ingredient in each.
Claire Sumner-Hughes, Business Development Manager at Ian Macleod Distillers, comments: “Our core brand values at Edinburgh Gin celebrate the ‘art, science and innovation’ of gin distilling. We align ourselves with the ‘arts’ and involve ourselves heavily in Edinburgh Fringe every year. We didn’t want the Scottish to have all of the fun, though, and partnering with Birmingham Comedy Festival was the perfect fit for us. It’s such a fantastic event, bringing the best comedy talent to the city, and drawing an amazing audience. We’re delighted to be involved.”
Visitors can pick up their pocket-sized festival guide and Edinburgh Gin passports from all of the participating venues, which include The Glee Club, The Green Room, Olivia’s, Missoula, Sobar, The Dragon Inn, Cherry Reds, The Old Joint Stock, and The Electric Cinema. There will also be a special pop-up sampling stand in the centre of the Arcadian throughout the festival.
Gin fans can follow the trail and take pictures of their venue’s signature serve, with their copy of the passport in the picture to be in with a chance of winning a special hamper, including the award-winning gin, a night at The Glee Club and Selfridges shopping voucher. To enter, you just have to hashtag #bhamcomfest and check in at the venue. Adding to the social media buzz, there will also be a special Edinburgh Gin Snapchat Geofilter at the Arcadian for revellers to enjoy.
A spokesperson for Birmingham Comedy Festival said: “We’re looking forward to working with Edinburgh Gin and hope people will enjoy checking out some of their signature tipples at key venues over the festival period – we certainly will be ….”
One of the longest-running comedy festivals in the UK, Birmingham Comedy Festival will be taking place from Friday 6 October until Sunday 15 October 2017. The full line up has been announced and is available to view via the Birmingham Comedy Festival website: www.bhamcomfest.co.uk
