Raymond Briggs’ much-loved Father Christmas is heading to Warwick Arts Centre, Coventry, from Wednesday 27 November to Sunday 29 December 2019.
A guaranteed brilliant bloomin’ festive treat for ages 3+ and their families, the critically acclaimed production follows Briggs’ grumpy but lovable Father Christmas as he gets ready for his busiest day of the year, Christmas Eve.
Watch him as he prepares his Christmas deliveries, feeds his reindeer, and finally takes flight into the snowy night.
A Lyric Hammersmith Theatre and Pins and Needles production directed by Emma Earle, the stage show is full of merry touches with plenty of live music, songs and playful puppetry.
First published in 1973, Father Christmas won Briggs the annual Kate Greenaway Medal for best children’s book illustration (his second win).
The author went on to write and draw many other acclaimed books for children, including The Snowman, Fungus The Bogeyman, Ug: Boy Genius Of The Stone Age, and The Bear. Winner of the BookTrust Lifetime Achievement Award in 2017, he’s also published several books for older readers, including When The Winds Blows and the autobiographical Notes From The Sofa and just-published Time For Lights Out.
Andrew Fletcher, Warwick Arts Centre’s Programme Manager, said: “Raymond Briggs’ Father Christmas is a modern classic by one of the greatest writer/ illustrators of our times. This lively hour live show brings that story beautifully to life, brimming with all the colour and magic of a perfect ‘blooming’ Christmas.”
