Angella Corinna debuts I Protest video.
Wolverhampton singer-songwriter shares lead track from debut EP for International Women’s Day (8 March 2021).
To mark International Women’s Day (8 March 2021), Wolverhampton-based singer-songwriter Angella Corinna is sharing the title track from her forthcoming debut EP, I Protest.
The track sees Angella rallying against global leaders in a driving protest against human rights infringements, the arms race, and more: ‘I stand for freedom and equality,’ she sings. ‘I stand for love and liberty.’
Discussing the theme of the song, Angella says: “We hear much about how certain issues – from arms dealing to fair wages for all – are being addressed, and how progress is being made. But while there have undoubtedly been improvements in many areas, we still have a long way to go to realise freedom and equality for all.
“Only by having our voices heard will real lasting change come.”
With a video shot inventively over Zoom during lockdown, I Protest’s call for action ties in with the theme of International Women’s Day 2021: #ChooseToChallenge.
“By choosing to challenge the world around us, we can change it for the better, and ultimately create a more inclusive and equal society,” says Angella. “Surely that’s something we all want!”
Influenced by such accomplished and timeless songwriters as Carole King, Tracy Chapman, Kirsty MacColl and Bob Marley, as well as the world around her, Angella has been making music since childhood. A regular attendee at songwriter/ composer Dan Whitehouse’s seminal Birmingham-based Songwriter’s Circle workshops, she’s also attended numerous songwriting courses and retreats, fascinated and inspired by the variety of approaches taken by other accomplished writers.
Her first official release, the I Protest EP is released on Friday 7 May 2021 via Messenger Maiden Music and features five tracks: I Protest, Clean Up Your Heart, Mother Earth, People Are Divided and Little Green Girl.
The video for the lead track, I Protest, is released via YouTube on Monday 8 March 2021.
