The League Of International Misfits host official Offsite9 Afterparty.
9 April 2022, Newhampton Arts Centre, Wolverhampton.
Offsite9, a programme of arts projects created to compliment British Art Show 9 in Wolverhampton, concludes on Saturday 9 April 2022 with Origin Unknown.
Taking place at the city’s Newhampton Arts Centre, Origin Unknown sees live performances from The League Of International Misfits, Eastern Pressure Recordings’ Juttla and NeOne The Wonderer for an inspiring night bubbling with eclectic musical influences – from UK rap and Asian underground, to some dance classics.
Curated by The League Of International Misfits’ Ni Singh, the event is described as an audio/visual ‘happening’ with fantastical beats and sounds, emotive lyrics and hypnotic visuals.
Ni is a Wolverhampton-based songwriter, composer and musician. As The League Of International Misfits he provided the soundtrack to Flexus Dance Collective’s energising performance at the British Art Show 9 (BAS9) opening on 21 January 2022 at Wolverhampton Art Gallery, an event which marked the start of BAS9’s Offsite9 programme. Ni’s collaboration with Flexus, which features Eastern flavoured beats, classical strings, electronic elements and fleeting rock influences, is set to receive a full public performance on 3 April 2022 when the dance company visit Wolves’ Arena Theatre.
The League push boundaries musically and lyrically, often exploring surprising subjects. For example, Queens And Princes is a homage to local record emporium, Mike Lloyd Megastore, whilst Dust explores our minute place in a vast universe, and Escape tackles the theme of identity and Ni’s own migration to the English countryside; Escape and Dust are included on the League’s debut EP, Hello Mi$fit (streaming from 4 May 2022).
NeONE The Wonderer is a Wolves-born producer and musician who emerged from the region’s vibrant grime scene, while producer, musician and DJ Juttla is the name behind global beats label Eastern Pressure Recordings. Juttla has performed to audiences across the world, and worked with such major artists as Asian Dub Foundation and Fun Da Mental.
Says Ni: “Origin Unknown is the first time this diverse collective of talent has been gathered together and, as this is the British Art Show 9, we choose to showcase the very British but global talent that resides in Wolverhampton.
“We bring you artists who will dazzle your earbuds with urban attitude, eastern flavoured beats and then top it with a dose of high octane festival energy courtesy of the The League Of International Misfits’ dance division – blending uplifting beats with infectious melodies.
“We’ve also been creating short films and visual imagery focused around culture and identity, and will be showcasing these around the venue.”
